Another celebrity meltdown
Published on November 21, 2006 By foreverserenity In Blogging

Have you heard the latest uproar? I guess if you haven’t you must have been out of the country or something. You all know Comedian and Actor Michael Richards who is best known for the role of Kramer on Seinfeld, loved by many people because he made the Kramer character loveable and he was so good at it too!

Richards was doing a show at a comedy club this past weekend and ended up offending quite a few people when he reacted badly to a group of hecklers watching his show. The hecklers who were black, got the brunt of Richards’ anger when he went off on a diatribe of racial remarks that were thought to be a part of his act at first, until people began to realize there was no punch line and what he continued to spew wasn’t funny anymore.

In the same news report I was listening to, they said that Richards went on David Letterman’s show to apologize and one of his comment was “I’m not racist”.

I thought about that for a minute and I said to myself, “Well, if you’re not racist, how come when you’re angry all that stuff comes out? Where does all that hate come from?”

I can understand anger and saying things in the heat of the moment, swear words, calling people names, even if the infamous “nigger” comes out, OK, you’re letting off steam. And even then it’s like, OK, you’re talking to a friend and you cuss at him and call him a nigger? That would make me wonder what kind of friendship that is and was that necessary.

I don’t understand though; when I hear of other people who have done what he did, if the person says they aren’t racist, why say things like that in the first place? Michael Richards didn’t just say “nigger this or nigger that”, he made some really terrible remarks, including “…that’s why we used to sling you up on trees…” (not verbatim) and other derogatory remarks.

If he’s not racist, how could all that come out? That’s a lot of ‘things’ to be bottled up inside of him if he isn’t racist!

They showed a brief snippet of the man who said it all started because of what he said to Richards, he shouted out to him “I hear that you’re not funny” (or something like that – it was so fast I didn’t hear quite clearly), and he thought Richards would handle it in a comedic way, the way most comedians would and was surprised at his (Richards) reaction.

While all this doesn’t bode well for Richards, it won’t make me hate him. It’s not nice to hear what happened, it's sickening that there are people who can look at someone else and think this way, yet I feel sorry for the guy. He’s going to have a hard time living this one moment down.

I’m willing to chalk it down to a slip of the tongue, or him being tired, or high, or drunk even! I’m even willing to chalk it down to him going through a moment of temporary insanity where he has had a string of bad experiences with quite a few black people bothering him?! Hey, anything is possible.

Sorry Michael, I tried to find excuses for you, they just don’t fly. I guess you have some explaining to do, which you’ve already started doing anyway. Yep, your world will be turned upside down for a while, but then you’ll be back in the bosom of the public’s arms once again.

Just another episode of hate that will be looked on as unimportant, nothing to make a big fuss about or as usual, just plain denial.

Aw yes, just another celebrity meltdown.

Life goes on and so do we. Yep, it really does.

WHile I do not condone his behaviour (nor even know who he is since I never watched Seinfeld), I think this is a bit of a mountain out of a molehill.  HOw?  So he is a racist!  But he is also a nobody, that carries no weight.  I think the whole press write up and publicity he is getting is counter productive to what should be happening - shunning.

But I guess it is that stupid celebrity mentality that many have.  I just find it making a mountain out of a fool.

I saw the rant in full, it was disgusting.. as for him being racist, I think he is, to spew that much venom and hatred comes from the dark place inside where you never want people to look, well Mr, Richards I looked and was stunned, shocked and totally angry at your behavior. you not only owe these people an apology you owe the entire black race one too.

Your career such as it is, is over. and you deserve it.

I guess Doc, unimportant, too much fuss about nothing? Perhaps. Unfortunately a lot of people will look at it this way and life goes on.

"If he’s not racist, how could all that come out? That’s a lot of ‘things’ to be bottled up inside of him if he isn’t racist!'

You've never searched for the most hurtful thing you could possibly say to someone in the heat of an argument? I'm not racist, but I could think of things right now even more hideous than the things he said. Most of us could, since we've had them ground into our minds for years by people who made us fear accidentally letting any little thing slip.

I think anyone who pretends they couldn't let rip a tirade as bad as this is fooling themselves.

I call complete BS.

It is such a double standard now a days. The hecklers were calling him a CRACKER! So he is not allowed to respond in term because he is white?

I am so sick of this reverse racism shit just because we feel bad about what our ancestors did.

Take a look a chris rock at some point. Does he not make fun of white people through his ENTIRE ACT?

Kramer may have took it too far, but he was responding in turn, as a comedian does. It really really gets my goat how his career is over for the same reason that many black comedians HAVE careers.

There is a BET, could I make a WET (white entertainment television) Hell no! I would be strung up!
Ebony Magazine? Can I make a whitey magazine? Hell no again.

And for those that are going to say "every magazine and tv show is white" bullshit, we are way past that and have been since before the cosbys.

This is what I'm thinking too Elie. Those are not normal thoughts to have inside of you if you're not hateful right? I'm not saying this because I'm black, it's not normal for someone to think this way about anyone. As I listened to the stuff he said, "that's why white people used to drag you behind...or hang you up on a tree.." He was pretty descriptive and didn't paint a pretty picture.

Naw he doesn't have a 'career' as such right now, and will likely lay low waiting for this to blow over.

I have, and I have had the worst things that could be said in anger said to me that really hurt me, to the bone. But never once has anyone ever said anything like that to me. If he's going to say things like that, even in anger, come on Baker, he could have said anything else under the sun. The people were laughing when he started out with his comments. I was laughing when I first heard him! Knowing his character and he's a comedian, I laughed when he made the first statement and the nigger was there, and the second still saying nigger. I laughted because he's a funny guy, and the other people from what I heard as I listened to the tape, were laughing too. The laughter stopped when he started talking in a manner that left a bad taste in everyone who continued to listen. There was no punch line. Just hate.

Take a look a chris rock at some point. Does he not make fun of white people through his ENTIRE ACT?

I have heard Chris Rock's jokes and have found them funny. Some are disgusting when he goes off into his off-color humor, like many comedians such as he do.

If you have heard the tape of Richards' comments Caracarn, it's not about a white person being brave and bold to call a spade a spade, it's not whether he will make racist jokes, heck he's a comedian he will say anything, they all do. It's what he said, and it wasn't an act. How's would that be over-reacting?

Anyone who goes to a comedy club can expect the worse from any of the comedians, it's all gloves off, that's normal, frankly if the attendees cared about that, they would not be there. It's when the comments become insultive and not humor.

I think in our world today if anyone can't get beyond hearing or telling jokes of a racial nature without being insulted when it's not meant to insult, well, I guess they have no sense of humor. However, there's a difference when there's a punch line, when it's humor, not when it's meant to hurt. And if your skin is too thin to hear any of that, then don't be around it.
on Nov 21, 2006
Consider this, FS...if the heckler had been a woman, and he had gone off on her in this manner, referring to her as a bitch, slut, whore, cunt, and saying something like "that's why we used to keep your asses barefoot and in the kitchen" or "that's why we shoulda never given you twats the right to vote" do you think it would have made headline news?

And that's the sad part about it, that it wouldn't. It's deem acceptable just because. That kind of thinking is totally wrong.
Let me add that it is wrong when someone who thinks this way, does it maliciously and it's not a part of the comedic act that is expected. Like I said, people were laughing at him when he started off on his tirade, it wasn't a joke anymore when what he was saying wasn't an act. Therein lies the difference.
on Nov 21, 2006
I don't think such an outburst necessarily indicates a deeper hatred unless it's done without shame or apology

Actually, before he went on television to talk about the incident, he was given a chance to reappear at the club and to apologize, he didn't. He only started doing so when his friend Jerry Seinfeld got involved, and when that tape started making the rounds.

That being said, it all could have been just another night at the club with bawdy jokes being enjoyed by all, unfortunately it wasn't.

here we agree totally.. I have asked the same questions, I want a national organization for the advancement of white people, I want a miss white America beauty show,I want totally white caucus in politics,I want shows on television, white comedians, the white entertainment channel. How many all black organizations are there? try making an all white one and see what happens.

Try saying what Jesse Jackson said about JEWS calling New York city Jew york city and Hymie town, try calling it nigger town and see what happens

Try saying what Louis Farrakhan says, He was kikes are the biggest problem for black people, try turning that around and say Niggers are the biggest problem for white people.

The 3 biggest racists in America are not white, they are black. Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan and Jesse Jackson.

regardless of fault, richard's career is pretty much over...except maybe doing "d list" stuff like the surreal life or the biggest loser if he gains enough weight.

want a national organization for the advancement of white people

I don't think I have to tell you that in the beginning of it's inception this was necessary. Now, the organization not only represents blacks, it represents all minorities, they need to update the name.

I want a miss white America beauty show

It became necessary when little girls up to this day would prefer to have a white doll over a black doll. This is the sad reality Elie. It's no joke. I watched a video the other day of someone's project wherein they put a black doll and a white doll in a room.

They asked little girls at pre-school and elementary schools to play with the doll they think is better. In almost all cases they chose the white dolls. They also asked them to choose which one was the nicest and the prettiest, they chose the white doll once again, 99.9 % of them did. What's wrong with this picture?

I want totally white caucus in politics

Almost there Elie, thank heavens for the minorites represented now.

I want shows on television, white comedians, the white entertainment channel.

Regular networks, ABC, NBC, CBS...and there are a lot of white comedians whose talents I really do enjoy, a lot!

How many all black organizations are there? try making an all white one and see what happens.

I don't think I need to state the obvious with this one.!

Try saying what Jesse Jackson said about JEWS calling New York city Jew york city and Hymie town, try calling it nigger town and see what happens

Yes, it was wrong of him to do that!

There is something wrong with people who continuously spew hatred at others because they're different. Or because they want others to see them as being on their side, or to get their votes or support, totally wrong. They don't speak for all blacks either.

The 3 biggest racists in America

why are they the "3 biggest racists?" there are many who have said bad things concerning race. aren't the worst racists the ones who actually act upon it every day?

It is time to stop pimping celebrities like they were worth a poop. Let them ruin their career, but it is time to let this stupidity fade into the dust bins of history.

remember Jackie Mason.
