I have signed up to do a 5 K walk - that's 3 miles, or so I'm told, for the American Heart Association of Greater Orlando. This walk takes place on September 20 at Lochhaven Park. I'm looking forward to it, with some trepidition too since I've not been consistent with my work out but I am determined to do and I will! So, I'm trying to raise $100, which is my own personal goal since the regular goal of $300 is kind of high for some people to donate these days!   If you would like...

Made you look! I have been perusing a bunch of articles on slate.com.  Pretty interesting too!  First one:  Made me wonder!  It was an interesting read. Who knew that these equipments...er...toys...were banned in some parts!  Now they can be considered as medical tools and given the 'cases' they listed in this article, I tend to agree with them! A Sex Toy a Day Keeps the Doctor Away? The medical uses of dildos and vibrators. By Michelle ...

I heard something on Good Morning America this morning that was very interesting.  We are not utilizing our brain to it's full potential!  At least many of us aren't!   Do you think we are all too programmed to use things that makes our lives simple and easy?  We go into automatic pilot and not really think about some of the things we have to do throughout our daily lives!  We have our brain on automatic pilot on the drive in to work, going to get coffee, using...

Last year I wrote about the voting to choose the "7 New Wonders of the World" http://wellness-serenity.joeuser.com/article/157048 .  I promised to follow up so here it is!   The vote is in, has been in since the very next day in fact!  There were 100 Million votes, that's right, One Hundred Million people voted! How awesome is that?!    The only surviving item from the original list is the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt: The pyramids were built...

An interesting bit of news.  The Pope does his own laundry!  I find that hard to believe really....maybe I misinterpreted what I read?  Tell me what you think from this sentence:   The pope then started a load of white vestments , including the shroud, only realizing what had happened when he returned to remove the sacred artifact, which is always line-dried. " His Holiness was distracted with trying to scrub a tough Blood of Christ stain out of Cardinal Nicora's...

I guess we should all be used to this by now, after all, inflation doesn't just happens to the cost of your food, or insurance or clothing or even your taxes! It also happens to buying a postage stamp. The cost of mailing a letter by regular First Class mail will cost you a penny more in May of this year! Currently the cost of mailing a letter is $0.41, so that will mean $0.42 for a First Class mail. What I hate about this is having to buy that extra penny postage stamps so that I can...

Newsweek.com featured an article written by Jennie Yabroff (to be featured in their February 4 issue), "Rise of the Real People", real people who are being asked to "strut their stuff", bucking the trend of skinny models and those uber thin ones too on the catwalk and in magazines; modeling for photographers who believe that the time has come for real people to be featured in the media. See that lovely voluptuous woman there, walking with confidence showing off her very curvy figure? Yep,...

Some time ago, I wrote an article about food that has been genetically altered (GA), the fact that I don't like it one bit! Link Well, nothing much has changed, in that, it's still being done to our foods and it's more prevalent than ever! This week on Good Morning America, it was the topic of discussion again. I am still alarmed about it, especially because foods that have been or will be genetically altered, are not labeled as such! In fact, the FDA has approved them to be on ou...

Yesterday my son made a discovery that I'm still amazed about! He showed me a nest of some sort that was on the inside of the door jamb of my car on the passenger side! I took a closer look and it looked really weird! It was a cocoon-nest type thing and I immediately got on the phone for my husband to meet us as soon as we parked at home, with the flashlight! [we were coming from my son's annual physical] In the car I was speculating, with my son that maybe it was an alien species th...

I've always heard people say once you have learned to ride a bicycle you never forget how to. My hubby would usually repeat the same mantra to me too because he recently began bike riding again. They would go off around our complex, him and the kids, riding and I would be inside doing something else. He wanted me to join them and I would always say that I can't, I don't remember how to ride a bicycle! You see, I learned to ride a bicycle when I was 15 years old! I taught myself ...

When I lived in New York, ever since I can remember, there have been a running joke between my friends and I that no matter which store I go into when we were shopping, if that store is empty, a crowd gathers around me! I used to laugh at the thought but I'm realising how true that is even today! I will go into a store or a section of a department in a store that is totally empty, there's no one at all for 'miles', then all of a sudden there would be so many people around me I can't mov...

Twas the month before Christmas When all through our land, Not a Christian was praying Nor taking a stand. Why the Politically Correct Police had taken away, The reason for Christmas - no one could say. The children were told by their schools not to sing, About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things. It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say December 25th is just a 'Holiday'. Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit Pushing f...

I received my tri-montly letter in the mail recently regarding what investments I have and whether or not I had a gain or loss. It definitely was a loss, but not a major one, thank heavens, but that made me wonder what will the next three months bring and will I ever have enough money to retire on? What exactly is enough money to retire on any way? They (financial advisers, experts) say it should be at least three times your salary, and if you can do more, then do so. It is kind of like...

I read an article on time.com about a Study that was done by Anya Hurlbert and Yazhu Ling, neuroscientists at Newcastle University, where they found out that girls prefer pink to blue and why we do. In the study, they polled 208 people, male and female; both genders liked blue, but the women preferred the redder shades of blues, i.e., reddish to purple or pinkish shades, while the men preferred the bluish-green hues. They also did the study between Chinese and British individuals and ...
