I couldn’t go to the gym on Saturday, so I decided to do a power walk instead. I’m still not at the fitness level I hope to be but by exercising everyday, I hope to get there soon. In fact, I hope that by December I’ll not huff and puff to run up any stairs! That’s my goal. There’s a trek that I do with my kids as exercise for all of us. When they come with me, they ride their bikes, or roller skate, or even sometimes walk. They can’t do the entire trek though because it’s a mil...

I had a late start yesterday so I didn't do my usual walk before my power workout. I've named Saturdays my power workout day, plus it's the only day I have an entire morning to myself, without interruptions! When I work out at home, it's stopping to do something for someone. There's nothing wrong with that but you can imagine what it does for my staying power! I went into the weights room to do some stretching and also work with my fav machine, "the back Extender", not the official na...

Journal entry 8/12/06 I got back not too long ago from working out at the gym. What a workout! I feel so energised. At least I did when I left, now I'm feeling sleepy because I had to run around for a bit and the sun is really hot out there today! Anyway, First I walked for 15 minutes before the gym opened. When it did, I concentrated on weights today for about 30 mins. It was gruelling! I did a combination workout with several machines, working my arms, chest and thighs and back....

OK, before I get to my subtitle..... I have not had much luck with having an aggressive workout this week at all. I start, I can't finish. I try to get it done, but family time makes it difficult to carve out time for myself. I will definately have to. The kids went back to school this week and so the schedule has been topsy turvy. So exercise has been kind of on the back burner physically but on the forefront mentally. I'm not becoming obsessed with it, I just want to be able to...

Journal entry for August 6 On Sunday I didn’t work out as intensely. First my body was screaming, not too badly but my muscles were protesting. I did some jump rope. About 50 jumps. My stamina is just not there yet, so I was out of breath by the time I was done! I did some stretching and sit ups. Then housework and cooking took over so I gave up. I walked because I had to take my kids to do last minute stuff for back to school. It was sweltering; it was a relief ...

So I've decided that I have to, have to start moving again. I have to in the name of my physical health and well being. And also because if I don't, I will not like the outcome of a sedentary life. I"ve been more physically active for the last two-three months. I started out by walking again. I don't get the chance to do it everyday, but I've been walking. I've also begun to exercise. Not an easy feat when you're not in the mood, but I find that when I'm not and I just do it, I usuall...

It’s been a while since I wrote anything about well-ness and stuff like that. It’s not that I’ve given up on being healthier I’ve just gotten lazy! For a while anyway. I was doing well working out and losing weight, then I stopped cold-turkey! I have no idea why. I still watch what I ate, somewhat, however I indulged and over indulged in my favourite foods. Yep, now I’m paying the price. I’m not the svelte person I was becoming while working out last spring/summer. I miss th...

A favorite saying of mine is “You’re as old as you feel”. I don’t know if anyone famous (or not) actually said it, but it’s what I tell my friends all the time. Have you ever wondered what some people do why they look so good considering how old they are? I’m not talking about plastic surgery or other cosmetic enhancements, rather people who look 20 – 30 years younger than they actually are. My mom and dad had very good genes. When I was in high school and one or the other of them...

Sometimes it’s hard not to resist them too. However, I’m getting good at saying no or eating only a small portion, enough to satisfy that craving to taste that sweet, delectable, sometimes sinful treat! Hmmm, yummy! I’ve learned to still have my cake and eat it too, har, har! Here’s what I do: I read my labels, and I know that’s boring and tiresome, but you would be surprise at how helpful this is. If the dessert in question (and this goes for anything) is more than 200 calories I won...

I love to snack. Ok, there I said it. I love to snack! I don’t indulge in a lot of fatty foods anymore but if I do, I do it in moderation. I still haven’t had any chocolate (or beer) yet. I’m planning to have some at the end of the week….I promise to have only one chocolate bar and two beers (fingers crossed)! Seriously though, I have to snack sometimes. It’s quite a filler in between meals. I do try to be good and snack healthy but what do you do when you can’t? The thing is if you...

I’ve been exercising fully now for, gosh, this is embarrassing but I’ve not really been keeping track of the date since I really began, but I would say about 3 months now. That’s of really working out one hour five days a week. However, I’ve started on my new way of thinking and exercising since the year began. I’ve not been to the gym I usually go to in the last four - five weeks because I’ve began to utilize a different way of working out. Namely I exercise in the mornings now instead...

Did you know that the salad you eat can be bad for you? Why? It depends on what you put in it or on it of course! A salad in general is a pretty healthy meal. If it’s prepared at home where you’re not likely to add all the ‘stuff’ that can go onto it, it will be a lot more healthy than if you go out to eat one. At home you can add all the other “stuff” too. When I make my salads at home I try to make it interesting. Who needs to eat a boring salad right?! I mean if it’s going...

I’m sure you’ve all heard this already but it’s ok to be fat! Say what? No kidding! Yes, it’s ok if you’re carrying around a little extra weight on your frame. Why? Because it means you will live longer. Yes, the scientists from the National Center for Health Statistics and the National Cancer Institute says overweight people die less often than people who die from other causes. (I don’t have a link but it’s been all over the news medium this past week). So apparently people die...
