My mom is visiting and spending some time with us. I'm trying to make sure she's comfortable in our home and that she's fine. I've noticed recently that she doesn't seem to be eating and I keep asking her "mom did you eat today, what did you eat?" as if she's the child and I'm her mom. I know she's getting tired of me asking so I decided to leave her alone on that topic. I tell my eldest to make sure that grandma eats breakfast and lunch. But of course you can't force her to eat. I buy ...
I've been debating whether I should write this because noone else but me (and my closest friends and relatives) cares about my life and what happens in my world anyway. But writing does help I find. It's been a very difficult two weeks for me and my family. I just lost my mother. She was sick and I know that she has gone on to a better place. A place where there's no pain, no more worries. She can travel anywhere she wants now. It's the coping that gets hard at times. There are mome...
One of the things I told myself to do is to make a food list and use it when I go food shopping. It works when I do it but when I don’t, there’s nothing but chaos. You see we shop as a family and I know this sounds like the beginning of a disaster with kids tagging along but this is one of the things we enjoy doing together. Plus the kids get out of the house which they like to do! When you do shop with a food list you tend to stick to the food on the list and it makes it a lot easier ...
Ah kids, love them, will die for them, but boy there are times when I want to throttle them or run away from them. Lately we’ve been going through a lot with our three children. We have them at varied ages as you might be aware if you read my blogs, 15 year old girl, 10 year old boy and 3 year old girl. Sometimes I wonder where did our wonderful, cheerful children go. Who are these people that seemed to have replaced them? Why do kids always try to push you to the limits? Ah geech….

You know there are two really important reason to go see a doctor. The first one is to keep yourself healthy. The second one is to find out if you're really sick and take preventive measures if you are. Am I right? My husband as been complaining of one thing or the other the last couple of months, say, since October. I commisserate with him, I cuddle him, I give him tablets. I yell at him, go see a doctor. I ask him if he's been in pain for a long time, does it really bother you so m...
I gave my teenage daughter a shampoo and blowdried and styled her hair. I was in the kitchen afterwards and my oldest was watching television in the living room while my youngest, the three year old was on the floor busy coloring. So the older one made a comment that her ears were ringing. I said to her, you probably got water in it from washing your hair. It will soon go away. My toddler stops what she was doing, looks up at her older sister, then hops onto the sofa besides her, pul...
I was trying to be funny and peak your curiosity with my title there!LOL! We live in a four bed room apartment and it’s pretty roomy, compared to what some are like. Our living room is an all-in-one, that has what they like to call here a ‘bonus’ room where there’s a big window, which I love. This area I’ve turned into a sitting room, where I like to go and sit on the love seat sofa by the window and read, think, or just hang out. My kids love it too. They like to sprawl out on the ...
I enjoyed reading Little Whip's article yesterday about Christmases she remembered, her family and the people in her life some of whom have passed on. Link It's funny (strange) that we both felt compelled to write similar articles. I guess that's what happens to you when those memories are stoked and comes alive. Brings a tear and a smile..... Christmas really is my favorite time of the year. In fact, once Thanksgiving rolls around I’m in hog heaven, emotionally. Those nostalgi...
My eldest daughter recently attended her high school Homecoming. It was a happy and rewarding outcome for her and a hectic and breath of relief for me. She’s a Junior in high school and is on the Junior/Senior Committee and she could not miss the big event. She, along with her friends on the committee planned the entire homecoming event. The theme they decided on was Old Hollywood and since the event was being held in the school gym, which recently had new floors, no high heels woul...
I was reading an article written by Susan Reimer a journalist who writes for the Baltimore Sun sometime ago. She wrote about taking a trip one day, being at the airport and wondered why travelers dressed so casually. They looked like they were doing their chores at home and then decided to go to the airport and take the plane. Doesn’t anyone take pride in how they look anymore she asks. I have to agree with her. I see the same problem around me here in Florida and it sometimes makes ...
My other enlightening conversation was with my kids. My son had this Pokemon toy in that whatcha-may-call it container that was very hip and very popular about two years ago. If you watch the cartoon you might know what I’m talking about, that Pokemon ball and the Pokemon comes inside the ball – I forgot what the correct name is? Anyway, he had this little bird that was actually a chicken, very tiny. He showed it to me and asked mom do you remember this? Do you know what it is? I said “Oh...
Well I finally received the call for my daughter's operation on her mouth. Our medical will cover the operation a hundred percent! Yes! But we don't go unscathe, we have to come up with some of the money for the dental fees. We'll work it somehow. But finally a blessed relief that her needs will be taken care of. It will be in two weeks time. Two weeks time and I must confess I'm a little scared for her. I am going to be positive and not worry but I find my hands trembling nonetheles...
“This is a message Pay attention I got something to say It’s not a conversation This is my own world too….” These are the words of singer Anastacia from her Freak of Nature CD, song #3, Overdue Goodbye I love this CD. It just says so much that I can relate to. When I’m down I listen to it and I sing (out of tune, but who cares) and I scream and I turn it up loud and really belt it out! It’s a wonderful way to make myself feel better. I totally recommend i...
Hello, my name is Donna and I’m an emotional eater. My emotions rule the way I eat. That would be me standing in a room full of other EEs, if there was a food anonymous program and if, I repeat if, I hadn’t taken control of the way I eat. I have mentioned my food craving and how hard it is to resist sometimes. This was a major problem before I started working out. I would eat and be satiated with what I ate. Then it would happen. I would start reaching for snacks, anything I could get...
My kids went own on their own...sort of...without me anyway! They are safe, not to worry. My daughter went with her friends to the Sunday School they all attend to trick or treat car style....I think Tova or Life Happens mentioned that?! They aren't the only ones doing that this year it seems! My son went with his friends, I let him with a bit of trepidation but realise that he's 13 after all, not a baby anymore, and this will probably be his last year to trick or treat! So, one last ...
